Sri Pranab Mukherjee, Honourable President of India, conferred the prestigious “President’s Certificate of Honour in Sanskrit” on Vidwan Sri Raja. S.Giri Acharya, in recognition of Sri Acharya’s extraordinary Contributions to the tasks of promotion of Sanskrit, Shastras and Indian Cultural Heritage, at the investiture Ceremony, held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi, on 23-3-2015. Vidwan Sri Giri Acharya is the father and Vidya Guru of Sri Subudhendra Tirtharu, the present Pontiff of Sri Raghavendra Swamy Mutt, Mantralaya.
Vidwan Mahamahopadhyaya Sri Raja. S. Giri Acharya was born on 20th April, 1945, at Nanjangud, Mysore District, Karnataka State. He belongs to the illustrious lineage of the renowned Saint Philosopher, Sri Raghavendra Tirtha, benevolent spiritual Guru of 16th Century, who is adored even today. His family had received the prestigious title of Raja, from the Maharaja of Mysore several decades ago, for its intellectual and spiritual leadership of the society.
Vidwan Sri Giri Acharya received his training in Sanskrit and Sastras, in the traditional Gurukula style, at the feet of his revered father, Vidwan Sri Venkata Raghavendracharya, who later became the head Pontiff of Sri Raghavendra Swamy Mutt at Mantralayam. He also received intensive training in Nyaya Satra, Vyakarana, Dharma Sastra and Vedanta, from the various illustrious Scholars, in the Gurukula System. He has great passion for collection, preservation and publication of rare manuscripts in the various disciplines. He has been renowned as a spirited presenter of his viewpoint, in the S’astrartha Goshthis. He has established and developed an Institute named as Adhyatmika Kendra and has collected more than ten thousand Manuscripts and Rare Books. He has the credit of serving as Adhyaksha of Sri Gurusarvabhouma Sanskrit Vidyapeeth, Mantralayam for several years. He has trained hundreds of students in Sanskrit and S’astras, the most prominent among them being his own son, who is now the head Pontiff of Sri Raghavendra Swamy Mutt, as Sri Subudhendra Tirtha. His authored and edited books , include, among others, Srimannyayasudha with 25 rare commentaries, S’abda Bodha of Tarka Sangraha, Paribhashendu S’ekhara, Smruti Muktavali and hundreds of Booklets of profound spiritual messages for the public at large. He has been honoured by Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth (Deemed University), Tirupati, with the honoris causa Title, Mahamahopadhyaya, and with Titles, such as, Vidyamanya Prasasti, Pandita Kesari, Vidwatchudamani, by various religious and spiritual organisations.
Presently Sri Raja. S. Giri Acharya is engaged in the great JnanaYajna of teaching, the most profound S’astra granthas, such as, Srimannyaayasudhaa, Srimacchandrika to more than thirty students every day.
